If your not advertising in The South magazine, you should, it is incredible. I have been photographing the Brooks family for a couple years now and I am a little nervous each time before. Michael has amazing photographers that work for him and I am honored to take photos of his family.I also like it because I know that they will be up for thinking outside the box, let me let my creative jucies go and will get what I was trying to do. Sweet kids to boot and a pretty wife,how can I go wrong. Sometimes photos that are my favorite are ones I just had to get the nerve to ask someone to do for me instead of staying in the safe zone. I had a great time and next time I will take you up on pizza after a shoot!

Melanie and Brian I do not think stopped laughing the entire time I was with them. Melanie a photographer near Atlanta called me to do her wedding, they read each other beautiful letters and made it through the wind storm we were having that day. They were up for anything, and I am surprised I have anything in focus because of tears coming from my eyes laughing so hard, not at them, with them! Congrats! It was really a pleasure to meet you and spend some time with you, I look forward to seeing you again.

I knew I would like Mandy the day I met her and she smiled at me. She has an amazing laugh and smile and I just knew her and her now husband would be a blast to work with.
They could not have asked for a better day, 65 and sunny. We also did my first day after session, what fun it was not to be concerned about her dress or time, we just bounced around downtown in the minivan! (how romantic) Thank you for letting me be a part of your day! PS. I am a sucker for father/daughter shots, I loved her dad, he was so funny and made you felt you were part of the family.

I found her blog right after Ava. It really took my breath away, I was really mad at Alexa that day and when I read Sheyesblog I just started crying. I looked back the other day and thought I can make through, I am feeling pretty tough today, but before I knew it I was sobbing in front of my computer at the beautiful way Sheye is able to express her grief, happiness, and her love for Ava. I don't even know this family, but little Ava has made such an impact on me, to be thankful for everyday with my sweet girl.

Ok, where do I start....
Bart has been one of my great friends for oh, like 13 years. He is funny, kind, and pretty darn good photographer. I met his now wife (which still feels a little odd to say) a couple times and could see why he fell in love with her. She might be one of sweetest people I have met, just deep down nice, not like myself with some cranky pants in them every once in awhile. She is really really nice, you get the picture? It makes me happy that my friend found someone I know will be good to him. And what a awesome wedding, they planned it in two weeks, her father is having medical issues and so they speed up the process and it turned out perfect. Also a little strange, he knows my Uncle John from Greeley. Small world. Congrats guys!

PS Melissa did you know he can throw an apple up in the air and smile all at the same time and balance it on his head. Wow

Wow! that is all that comes to mind. I haven't been able to write about it yet since I flew to Denver the next day. But it was better then I could have ever hoped for. Thank you all for your support, I really was blown away by the response. Everyone really helped me so much pull this together, Paula, Leah Bailey, Sebrell Smith, Minet Rushing of Custom Cakes, Dan our great bartender, Nino, Greg,Ruth, Lisa, Emmaline and of course our great clients. Lisa had a baby!

Now I am not much of a night person, and I would tease Lisa not to have the baby in the middle of the night. So Friday night I get a call at 2am, Lisa is ready. So I run to the hospital to see Julian Patrick Colvin born at 3:30 am. Everything seems alright with the world when you see a new life, what a miracle. Her baby shower with the studio was tonight, I think he just wants to come to my Grand Opening on the 22nd. I love the photo of Kris,just moments after seeing his new son. I almost start crying when I look at it, it reminds me when Scott saw Alexa, love at first site. It really changes your world for the better, although you can not see the road ahead and the challenges that will arise, I would do it again and again. It is strange before you have a baby, you can not imagine life with one, now I can not imagine life without her. Congrats Lisa and Kris, I love you and am so thrilled to have been there to witness him being born, he is beautiful.

I photographed the birth of this new little bundle of joy.I do not do many, but when I do it is such a amazing experience. Twelve days later we went and did some photographs at home and she had changed so much in the last 12 days. I just love holding new babies.

This is how I usually find her, in her tutu with her sparkle shoes and skinned up legs. I took her to a park today and let her ride her new princess bike and as happy as I was to be with her a little part of me hurt knowing she will not need me as much someday. It sounds silly I know, sometimes I get tired, the bathing, making peanut butter and jelly, telling her why it is not a good idea to put bubbles down the toliet, or lick the icecream cone that is painted on the wall at Tybee. But then I think how I will miss those things, and I try to hold them in my head so I can go back to them.

Anna and John had the prettiest ceremony I have ever seen, Anna strolled down this long path of her parents yard through trees and ivy to a Sting song sung accopella and John was waiting for her under this majestic oak tree with candles. It really was breathtaking. To see their families amazing relationship brought tears to my eyes and always makes me think about my parents when I see this feeling. I can't put into words but I recognize it because I feel it with my own parents. The reception was held in her families backyard on the water, (wipe my droll up now) the property is beyond amazing and Trish McLeod, the brides mother, did an wonderful job with the catering.Thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

I have this ongoing joke with Angie and JD that they can not stop having babies so I can continue to see them every couple months.I did their wedding and after is was all done, the wedding, the album, I missed them. They were one of my first weddings and I just fell in love with the two of them. Sweet, smart, and easy what a great combo right? So they had baby number one, cute Arden and we did her first year and at the end of the year I was sad because that meant we would not see each other as much, but they had another! And again a year went by I was feeling a little sad until I found out she was pregnant again! I am pretty sure this will be the last one, but Angie and JD I have loved seeing you get married, have now a third on the way. Congrats, I know it must be stressful at times but you have a beautiful family.

Now I can not compare to a Jack Leigh photograph, but fog and water always remind me of Jack. I love it when it is like this and it is so peaceful to me and man what I would not give to have a view like this. I could not resist the other morning when I was driving down beautiful Bluff Drive and saw this, can you believe it was noon? This past month has been crazy, and when I look at this is calms me down. Caroline and Matt were two of the funniest couples I have shot to date. I had not met Matt until yesterday since he has been deployed to Iraq, but we hit it off instantly.
It was full of Savannah Wedding Professional vendors, so of course it was a great wedding working with such professionals like Harvey Designs, Minet Rushing of Savannah Custom Cakes, the Jepson, and Savor Savannah for the food. And her beautiful Vera Wang from Bleu Belle Ok enough name dropping, but you get the picture, (no pun intended) it was a great wedding with great people and great vendors. Caroline and Matt did not stop smiling the whole night, they through an amazing party and I so enjoyed being goofy all night with them. Thanks guys!

Busy long days

The last two weeks have been crazy, getting ready to move to our new studio, building that out, Christmas it has been busy. I am so thankful that I have been in business so long with clients that started with me from the very start. It is nice to try and redo things every year and try to figure out how to do things better and more efficient for the next year. I can't believe I have a staff of four and bought a building, I just can't believe it. I am excited to share with all of you the new things we are doing in 2009, we have added more staff, bigger area for shooting and we are adding a baby to the studio (Lisa not me) Lisa will have her little bean in February! We have loved watching her grow and share her and her husbands excitement for their little boy. (I have named him PJ) This is a photo of Alexa in the tub, I always love this time of night, I wish I could rewind her and start her as a baby again.

One of the most important things to me when i am photographing is the light, sure you can do a bunch of fancy things with Photoshop and people do in my opinion over photoshop and you tend to notice that before the photograph. Film is a great thing because you had to learn how to make a great image without Photoshop making it look better. I look at light all the time, walking down the street, swimming in the pool. It fascinates me what light can do. Here are a few from last night, I could have photographed them all day! THe light was beautiful last night.

Being Thankful

Tonight I am feeling a little sappy and I often like to read zenhabits and he has a recent post about being thankful. I like his blog because it makes lists, it is straight and to the point and talks about all these ideas about living more simple. Anyhow back to my original reason for this post.

I am thankful for Scott and my daughter Alexa, Scott for his thoughtfulness his laugh and him making me feel beautiful everyday. For Alexa for making me slow down a little and reminding me what is really important, success is great, but without the two of them it would be nothing.

I am thankful for Ruby (Scotts grandma) who on our last visit told me how little material things really mean and it is really the memories that matter. Not that I needed much reminding but you know I will go to Atlanta and see something that I must have, and what I saw in Ruby is it really does not matter, these things. , I looked around and there are things in her house that have not moved since my husband was a baby. There are photos with stuff in the same place thirty something years ago, like time froze.

I am thankful for my parents and my brother and my husbands family

I am thankful for being able to do a job I love and remind myself when I get tired or grouchy that I am very lucky.

I am thankful to all of my clients for letting me into their lives and making me feel like a part of their family and I am thankful for all of my employees that believe in my business and smile everyday, ok almost everyday!

This time of year is my busiest, I am always a roller coaster of emotions. I love this time of year because I can set out to be a better person next year, in business and personally. Well I could write alot more but Alexa wants to play

Whitney and Casey were married Saturday and she made branding look easy. Her wedding had a theme based on the beautiful gates in Savannah and she had planned every detail. I heard from her sister in law that she aka Martha Stewart, so there you go. Whitney was the kindest bride ever, she is just a genuine sweet person and cheers me up everytime I talk to her. You can see what she sees in Casey as well, very thoughtful and kind. I had a great time at there wedding which was catered by the famous Susan Mason and cake of course by no other then Minet Rushing of Savannah Custom Cakes. Have fun in Rome!

I was having fun throwing the leaves today, two sweet families that I have seen grow up! The six year boy was coaxed by making me do whatever he wanted and taking a photo of me, I would have put on some make up if I knew it was going to be reversed!

I mentioned him before but he is the best pediatrician ever. I love him and his wife, you feel like you are going back in time when the doctors came to visit you at your house,(he does not do that, he has an office) but it is a nice family feel he has, even when Alexa was not so nice to him! (she hates shots!) But I highly recommend Dr. Stone, you will love him too! And here is his new addition to his family, I know everyone is dying to see what he looks like!

It was freezing the day we took these photos, also a little stinky where I chose to take the photos which the oldest was not happy with! who can blame her, but what a great location it is, even if it smells a little. I ran into the parents last night and had such a good time getting to know them better.

Mike works with my mother in law so I knew I really had to blow this one out of the water! All joking aside Mike is such a nice man and helped us out with Alexa and her speech so the least I could do is meet his beautiful family and capture some memories for them. Thank you Mike for all you did for my Alexa, it meant the world to me.

I started writing about my friends who are artists about a month ago and it made me think about it today. I was strolling through the Savannah Airport I looked and felt myself having to remember to breath. I saw the back of this guys head that looked just like Jack and it took my breath away. I stopped for a second and looked twice, how strange is that since he has been gone for about four years. I think about him often and how he impacted my career and me personally. He was an amazing inspiration, I worked for him for about two years and cried like a big baby when I had to tell him I couldn't do it anymore. He was a true artist, quick to give you a big bear hug and tell you a story about one of his photographs. I miss you Jack and part of me was hoping when I saw this guy that maybe it was all a mistake and you had just gone on a much needed vacation.

Big big news here at the studio. I wrote down some of my big goals about two years ago, one being I wanted to own my own building. It is really amazing when you write your goals down, see where you want to go, how you work towards it and can look back and with amazement and see what you have accomplished. So we will be relocating to 3301 Waters Ave, right by Fleet Feet, and Volume 40. We own the bottom right section. So excited, we are having our opening December 11th so come join us!
